Pàiduì Kā Kǒngmíng #18

Pàiduì Kā Kǒngmíng, or 'Party Cards: Kǒngmíng,' emerged during a resurgence of interest in stylized, collectible card games within Chinese markets that blended historical figures with contemporary graphic aesthetics. Issue #18 was released as part of a mid-series expansion, intended to leverage the enduring cultural significance of Zhūgě Kǒngmíng from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms while recontextualizing the character through a vibrant, modern illustrative lens suited for the growing hobbyist demographic.

The design of the series was spearheaded by a collaborative team of digital illustrators who sought to balance traditional iconography with a pop-art influence. By stripping away the more rigid depictions often found in academic texts, the designers created a recognizable and accessible aesthetic. Upon its release, the issue was well-received by regional collectors for its bold color palette and its successful attempt to bridge the gap between historical reverence and the trendy, collectible-first design language that defined the broader Pàiduì Kā series.
