Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #128

Published in July 1987, Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #128 emerged during a transitional era for Marvel Comics as the title grappled with darker, more mature storytelling under the direction of writer Jim Owsley, later known as Christopher Priest. This specific issue is notable for its exploration of the complex emotional fallout within Peter Parker's personal life and his ongoing responsibilities as a hero, reflecting the gritty editorial mandate that defined the series in the mid-to-late 1980s.

The interior artwork for this issue was rendered by Sal Buscema, whose prolific and distinctively rhythmic style became synonymous with the Spider-Man franchise throughout the decade. Buscema's visual approach favored clear, kinetic storytelling that prioritized the emotional weight of character interactions over purely splashy spectacle, helping to ground the often-fantastical conflicts of the series in a recognizable, grounded reality that resonated with long-term readers of the era.
