Powers 25 #7

Powers #7 was published in 2001 as part of the initial arc of the creator-owned series Powers, written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming. The series emerged during a period of experimentation in the independent comics market, blending gritty noir sensibilities with the tropes of the superhero genre. It was produced by Image Comics and aimed to provide a grounded, mature look at a world where superpowers are a mundane, often destructive reality.

The visual identity of the issue is defined by Michael Avon Oeming’s distinct, angular aesthetic, which departs from the hyper-realistic styles common in mainstream comics of the era. His work was intended to emphasize the procedural, detective-driven narrative, focusing on emotional weight and urban decay. Upon its release, the series was received with critical acclaim, eventually winning the Eisner Award for Best New Series and solidifying its place as a cornerstone of modern independent comic storytelling.
