Where it came from
Quasar #19, released in February 1991, serves as a pivotal chapter in the Marvel Comics cosmic saga. Written by Mark Gruenwald with artwork by Greg Capullo, this issue is a central installment of the 'Cosmic Unity' arc, which follows the hero Wendell Vaughn as he navigates his role as the Protector of the Universe. The series was designed to deepen the exploration of Marvel's vast, abstract cosmic hierarchy, placing Quasar at the intersection of powerful entities like Eon and Epoch.
The aesthetic of the issue reflects the early 1990s house style of Marvel, characterized by dynamic panel layouts and the highly detailed, kinetic linework that defined Greg Capullo's early career before his move to Image Comics. It was received by readers as a quintessential piece of the era's space-faring lore, lauded for expanding the character's supporting cast and cementing his place among Marvel’s heavy hitters. As a bridge between grander cosmic events, it remains a favorite for collectors focused on the 1990s expansion of the Marvel multiverse.
