Quasar #48

Quasar #48 was published by Marvel Comics in July 1993, falling within the later years of the title's original run. Created by writer Mark Gruenwald and artist Grant Miehm, the issue serves as part of the 'Starblast' crossover event, a cosmic-scale narrative that involved various space-faring characters across the Marvel Universe. The series was designed to showcase Quasar, also known as Wendell Vaughn, as a primary defender of the cosmos, utilizing the Quantum Bands to navigate complex intergalactic threats.

The aesthetic of this era of Quasar is defined by the high-concept, dense plotting characteristic of Gruenwald’s long-standing tenure as both writer and editor at Marvel. The cover and interior art reflect the stylized, kinetic energy of early 90s comic book illustration. While the series was often considered a cult favorite due to its heavy focus on cosmic lore and continuity, it received critical appreciation for its ambition in managing the sprawling, intricate tapestry of Marvel's celestial mythology during a period of transition in the comic industry.
