Where it came from
Released in the early 1990s by Disney Comics, Roger Rabbit #12 is part of a series that extended the world of the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. During this period, Disney Comics sought to capitalize on the film's massive success by producing original stories that leaned into the zany, slapstick traditions of golden-age animation, while simultaneously exploring the noir-inspired tension between human characters and Toons.
The issue features artwork and narrative styles consistent with the collaborative efforts of the Disney Comics creative team, which often employed veteran animators and illustrators to maintain a visual consistency with the theatrical release. These comics were generally well-received by younger audiences and collectors of the era who appreciated the bridge between classic gag-driven humor and the more complex, cynical tone established by the film's directors.
