Salaryman Z emerged during the mid-2000s as a satirical commentary on the rigid corporate culture of contemporary Japan. Created by indie artist Kenjiro Matsuoka, the series follows the surreal, often absurd life of an overworked middle manager who finds himself navigating bizarre, supernatural office politics. The third issue continues the series' signature blend of dry, observational humor and manga-influenced stylized grit, reflecting the growing cultural anxiety surrounding work-life balance and the stagnation of the 'salaryman' ideal.

Matsuoka designed the visual language of the series to contrast mundane bureaucratic settings with chaotic, high-contrast action sequences. By utilizing stark black-and-white ink work, he intended to highlight the monotony of the protagonist's professional life while emphasizing the grotesque nature of his nocturnal encounters.
