Savage Dragon #102

Savage Dragon #102 was published in 2002 as part of Erik Larsen's long-running creator-owned series under the Image Comics banner. This issue is particularly notable for its role in the series' ongoing narrative experimentation, where Larsen frequently utilized the title to explore unconventional storytelling techniques and pay homage to various eras of comic book history while maintaining the gritty, superhero-noir aesthetic that defined the book since its debut in 1992.

The issue features Larsen's signature bold, energetic art style, which often draws inspiration from the Golden and Silver Ages of comics while subverting traditional superhero tropes. As with much of the Savage Dragon run, the design and direction were driven entirely by Larsen’s singular creative vision, allowing him the autonomy to steer the character and his world through complex arcs that were often contrasted against the more mainstream, editorial-heavy output of larger publishers at the time.
