Where it came from
Shock SuspenStories #3 was published in 1952 by EC Comics, a house known for pushing the boundaries of the comic book medium during the early 1950s. Edited by Harvey Kurtzman and Al Feldstein, the series was designed to deliver short, punchy tales of crime and psychological suspense, often concluding with an ironic or gruesome twist that served as a moral commentary on human nature.
The interior art for this issue features the work of legendary EC contributors like Jack Davis and George Evans, whose gritty, high-contrast styles perfectly complemented the publisher's penchant for dark realism. Like much of the EC catalog of the era, the issue faced significant scrutiny during the mid-1950s moral panic surrounding comics, ultimately leading to the implementation of the Comics Code Authority, which restricted the violent and macabre themes that defined this series.
