Skate Ali #3

Skate Ali #3 emerged during the mid-1990s as part of an independent comic book series that sought to bridge the gap between burgeoning street skating culture and the aesthetic sensibilities of urban alternative comics. The series was produced during a period when the skateboarding industry was experiencing a shift toward more artistic and counter-cultural expression, and the creators utilized this platform to mirror the gritty, kinetic energy found in contemporary skate zines of the time.

The illustrations for the series are characterized by a raw, lo-fi style, prioritizing motion and character expression over polished anatomy or rigid backgrounds. This stylistic choice was intentional, aimed at capturing the ephemeral nature of street skating and the punk-rock ethos of the era's independent publishing scene. While the series remained a niche publication, it is remembered by collectors for its commitment to representing the authentic subculture of the nineties skate scene, serving as a snapshot of the visual language prevalent in DIY art circles of that decade.
