Sláine the Berserker #12

Sláine the Berserker #12 was published as part of the long-running British sci-fi and fantasy anthology 2000 AD. The series, created by Pat Mills and Angela Kincaid, draws heavily from Celtic mythology, centering on the titular barbarian warrior Sláine Mac Roth. Debuting in 1983, the series became a cornerstone of the publication, celebrated for its dark, visceral tone and the evolution of its art style as it transitioned from traditional black-and-white to more experimental, fully painted color spreads.

The artistic identity of Sláine is defined by a succession of legendary illustrators, most notably Simon Bisley, whose work on the series in the late 1980s redefined the aesthetic of the character. Bisley's approach utilized dynamic, muscular character designs and a gritty, high-contrast style that resonated deeply with the era's comic sensibilities. His contribution transformed Sláine from a standard fantasy archetype into an icon of the medium, cementing the character's legacy within the 2000 AD pantheon.
