Slaine the King #26

Slaine the King, serialized within the pages of 2000 AD, emerged as a cornerstone of British dark fantasy comics during the 1980s. Created by writer Pat Mills and artist Angela Kincaid, the narrative follows the Celtic barbarian Slaine Mac Roth as he navigates a landscape steeped in myth and brutal conflict. Issue 26 serves as a definitive chapter in a saga known for its visceral storytelling and detailed, often macabre, aesthetic that challenged the conventions of the medium at the time.

The visual identity of this series was significantly shaped by the evolution of its illustrative style, transitioning through various artists who brought a gritty, atmospheric intensity to the character. By the time this issue was produced, the series had firmly established its reputation for combining folklore with extreme action. Critics and readers largely viewed the work as a bold departure from traditional superhero narratives, cementing its place as a cult classic within the British comics renaissance.
