Sonic the Hedgehog #87

Published in August 2000 by Archie Comics, Sonic the Hedgehog #87 is a notable installment in the long-running series based on the Sega video game franchise. This era of the series was characterized by the 'Sonic Adventure' story arc, which adapted elements from the Dreamcast game of the same name. The creative team at the time, including writer Ken Penders and artist Ron Lim, sought to bridge the gap between the existing, established Archie-verse lore and the narrative shift introduced by the newer 3D console title.

The issue features artwork by Ron Lim, a veteran comic artist known for his extensive work at Marvel, whose distinct style helped modernize the aesthetic of the Archie series during this transition period. The narrative focuses on the internal conflicts and shifting power dynamics among the Freedom Fighters as they contend with the consequences of the 'Shattered World' saga. While the series often navigated complex continuity, this issue remains a representative artifact of the turn-of-the-century period where Western comic adaptations of video games were heavily expanding their world-building efforts.
