Spider-Man: The Mutant Agenda #2

Spider-Man: The Mutant Agenda #2 was published in 1994 as the second installment of a three-part crossover miniseries between Marvel's Spider-Man and X-Men titles. This era of Marvel history was characterized by ambitious editorial initiatives to unify disparate sub-franchises, leveraging the massive popularity of the X-Men animated series and the burgeoning appeal of the Spider-Man cartoon. The narrative, penned by Steven Grant, explores the scientific intersection of Peter Parker's mutagenic accident and the genetic mutation that defines the X-Men, specifically focusing on the pursuit of the Beast by the villainous High Evolutionary.

The visual identity of this issue was defined by the artwork of penciler Scott Eaton and inker Ralph Cabrera, who adhered to the high-contrast, kinetic style prevalent in mid-nineties superhero comics. The series was designed to serve as a bridge for fans of the two franchises, capitalizing on the synergy between the titles at a time when Marvel was aggressively expanding its shared universe. While it remains a niche piece of nineties nostalgia, it is frequently cited by collectors for its iconic wraparound covers and its role in an experimental period of collaborative storytelling within the Marvel line.
