Where it came from
Spider-Woman number 15, published by Marvel Comics in 1979, arrived during the character's initial solo series run which sought to establish Jessica Drew as a distinct presence within the Marvel Universe. The series was designed to differentiate her from the broader Spider-Man mythos, focusing on espionage and supernatural elements that mirrored the shifting trends of late seventies comic narratives.
The issue features cover art by Dave Cockrum and interior work by Carmine Infantino, whose clean, kinetic style helped solidify the visual identity of the title during this era. While the character was initially met with mixed reviews regarding her origin and connection to the Spider-Man legacy, this specific period is often cited by collectors for its commitment to experimental, atmospheric storytelling that moved away from traditional superhero tropes.
