Spitfire and the Troubleshooters #3

Spitfire and the Troubleshooters was launched by Marvel Comics in 1986 as part of their short-lived New Universe imprint. The line was conceived by Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter, who intended to create a shared fictional universe grounded in a more realistic setting than the established Marvel superhero canon. The series follows Jenny Swenson, a professor who gains superhuman abilities through a scientific accident, and the various complications that arise from her involvement with her students and a high-tech armored suit.

Issue number three of the series features the character's ongoing development within this alternate reality. The creative direction for the early New Universe titles was marked by a specific attempt to reflect contemporary mid-1980s culture, utilizing a tighter editorial control to ensure continuity across the imprint. While the project was met with significant skepticism from critics and readers at the time due to its departure from traditional superhero storytelling, it has since become a recognized artifact of 1980s corporate experimentation in the comic book industry.
