Star Wars #19

Published by Marvel Comics in February 1979, Star Wars #19 marked the beginning of a new narrative arc following the adaptation of the original 1977 film. As the series moved beyond the immediate plot of the movie, writers and artists began to flesh out the expanded universe, tasked with maintaining reader interest in characters like Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia without the guidance of a direct cinematic script. This era was critical in establishing the long-term viability of the franchise in the comic book medium.

The issue features a cover illustrated by Carmine Infantino, a veteran artist whose work on the series is often noted for its distinct, grounded aesthetic. Infantino, alongside writer Archie Goodwin, sought to capture the tension and high-stakes adventure synonymous with the galaxy far, far away. The work was generally well-received by fans of the time, serving as a primary source of new Star Wars content during the years-long gap between the first and second films.
