Where it came from
Published by Dark Horse Comics in 1998, this four-part miniseries was created to provide a definitive origin story for Mara Jade, one of the most significant characters in the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Written by Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole, the series explores Jade's time serving as the Emperor's secret assassin, filling in the gaps of her life prior to her appearance in Zahn's original Thrawn trilogy.
The interior artwork for the series was provided by Carlos Ezquerra, while the cover art was handled by Adam Hughes, whose depictions of Mara Jade became iconic among fans of the franchise. The series was well-received for grounding the character in the established lore of the Galactic Empire, effectively transforming her from a mysterious antagonist into a complex, multifaceted protagonist.
