Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #247

Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #247 was published in January 1979 during a pivotal era for DC Comics. This issue is particularly noted for featuring a complete revamp of the Legionnaires' costumes by artist Dave Cockrum, who had previously gained acclaim for his character designs on the X-Men. The editorial direction sought to move the characters away from their traditional looks toward a more modern, science-fiction aesthetic, reflecting the evolving visual language of late-seventies superhero comics.

The issue serves as a significant entry in the 'Earth-Man' era of the series, written by Paul Levitz. It was well-received by fans at the time for its bold artistic departure and its focus on the internal dynamics of the team. As the Legion’s popularity continued to stabilize through the late seventies, this issue became a notable example of how DC experimented with the visual identity of their established future-based ensemble to maintain reader engagement.
