Superman #661

Superman #661 was released in April 2007 as part of the Arise and Fall storyline, following the events of the One Year Later narrative shift. Written by Kurt Busiek with interior art by Carlos Pacheco, the issue focuses on the deepening conflict between Superman and the sentient solar entity Arion. The narrative sought to reconcile the character's traditional mythology with complex cosmic stakes, reflecting a period in DC history where writers were tasked with grounding long-term arcs within established continuity.

The cover art, illustrated by Renato Guedes, reflects the mid-2000s house style for DC titles, emphasizing high-contrast action and a cinematic approach to character anatomy. Busiek’s approach to Superman is noted by critics for its emphasis on the hero's internal moral struggles and the technical challenges of his power set. The issue remains a minor but representative snapshot of mid-2000s mainstream superhero storytelling, serving as a bridge between larger editorial crossovers.
