Where it came from
Released in April 1993, Superman: The Man of Steel #22 represents a pivotal moment in the post-Death of Superman era. This issue serves as part of the 'Funeral for a Friend' storyline, exploring the immediate aftermath of Kal-El's battle with Doomsday and the profound impact of his absence on the city of Metropolis and the broader DC Universe.
The issue features writing by Louise Simonson and artwork by Jon Bogdanove, whose distinct, energetic style was a hallmark of the Man of Steel series during the early 1990s. The creative team focused on the emotional weight of grief and the mantle of heroism, balancing the loss of a symbol with the narrative necessity of moving forward. It was received as a somber, character-driven entry in a high-octane period of comic book history.
