Where it came from
Terra Obscura #2, released in 2003, serves as the second installment of a six-issue limited series published by America's Best Comics, an imprint of WildStorm. Created by Alan Moore and Peter Hogan, the series revives characters originally published by Nedor Comics during the Golden Age of comic books. The narrative explores a world where these forgotten superheroes grapple with the complexities of modern existence, effectively weaving a meta-textual commentary on the evolution of the medium itself.
The visual identity of the series is defined by the illustrative work of Yanick Paquette, whose intricate pencils lend a grounded, contemporary aesthetic to these retro archetypes. By pairing the distinct, pulp-inspired concepts of the 1940s with a sharp, modern graphic sensibility, the creative team aimed to revitalize these obscure figures for a sophisticated comic-reading audience. Upon its release, the series was well-regarded for its structural depth and its respectful, yet transformative, approach to comic book history.
