Where it came from
The Avengers #337 was published in August 1991, marking a pivotal moment in the series' history as it initiated the 'Operation: Galactic Storm' crossover event. This era of Marvel Comics saw the Avengers navigating complex geopolitical tensions within the Marvel Universe, specifically focusing on the brewing war between the Kree and Shi'ar empires. The issue served to set the stage for an ambitious multi-title storyline that tested the team's moral compass and leadership structure.
The cover art and interior pages for this period were shaped by the collaborative efforts of writer Bob Harras and artist Steve Epting. Their approach focused on a grittier, more modern aesthetic that leaned into the high-stakes ensemble dynamics characteristic of early 90s superhero epics. The issue was received as a solid entry in the series, appreciated by readers for its effective world-building and the seamless integration of various Marvel sub-plots into a cohesive, large-scale narrative.
