The Beauty #1

The Beauty #1 was published by Image Comics in 2015, emerging from the creative partnership of writers Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley. The series is set in a near-future world where a sexually transmitted disease—the titular Beauty—is marketed as a life-altering gift that makes the infected physically perfect, eventually leading to a dark, high-stakes conspiracy. The premise was developed by Hurley, a former police officer, who drew upon his experience in law enforcement to anchor the narrative's central investigation within a gritty, procedural framework.

Jeremy Haun, who also handled the interior art, utilized a clean and sharp visual style to contrast the idealized appearances of the characters with the grim reality of their circumstances. The design choices were intentional, aiming to unsettle readers by making the characters appear increasingly artificial as the narrative unfolded. Upon its release, the issue was well-received for its provocative premise and its ability to blend social commentary on contemporary beauty standards with a compelling noir-inspired detective story.
