Where it came from
The Brave and the Bold #137, published by DC Comics in 1977, arrived during a period when the title was firmly established as a showcase for team-up stories, primarily featuring Batman alongside a rotating cast of DC characters. This issue is notable for featuring a team-up between Batman and the Metal Men, continuing the series' tradition of pairing the Dark Knight with disparate heroes to navigate unique threats that required both detective work and specialized scientific intervention.
The issue was written by Bob Haney, the prolific writer who defined the adventurous and often whimsical tone of the series for many years, with interior art provided by Jim Aparo. Aparo is widely celebrated by fans for his definitive mid-career run on Batman, characterized by his clean, expressive lines and dynamic compositions, which helped solidify the visual language of the character during the late 1970s.
