The Brave and the Bold #189

The Brave and the Bold #189, published in August 1982, serves as a notable entry in the DC Comics anthology series that famously paired disparate heroes to solve mysteries or confront threats. This particular issue features Batman and the Flash collaborating to investigate a kidnapping case in the fictional city of Ivy Town. By this point in its run, the series was nearing its conclusion as DC moved toward more modernized character team-ups, reflecting a transition period in 1980s comic book storytelling.

The issue was written by Mike W. Barr, a prolific scribe known for his extensive work on the Batman mythos during the Bronze Age of comics. The artwork was provided by Jim Aparo, whose definitive, moody style became synonymous with the Batman character throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Aparo’s dynamic layouts and expressive character work were well-regarded by readers of the era, helping to solidify the issue as a grounded, quintessential example of the street-level detective stories that defined the series before its eventual rebranding as The Brave and the Bold Vol. 2.
