The Brave and the Bold #82

The Brave and the Bold #82, published by DC Comics in early 1969, emerged during a pivotal era for the title. By this point in the series' history, editor Murray Boltinoff had firmly established the book as a venue for team-up stories, frequently featuring Batman as a permanent fixture alongside a rotating cast of DC heroes. This specific issue paired the Caped Crusader with the Doom Patrol, attempting to bridge the gap between Gotham's gritty mystery stories and the more experimental, offbeat science fiction themes typical of the Doom Patrol's own adventures.

The issue was written by Bob Haney, a prolific writer known for his character-driven, often fast-paced approach to DC's team-up formula. The cover art and interior illustrations were provided by Neal Adams, who was rapidly gaining recognition for his naturalistic anatomy and dynamic compositions. His work on this issue is often cited by comic historians as a transitional moment where the polished, modern aesthetic of the Bronze Age began to replace the more stylized, traditional house style that had dominated DC Comics throughout the 1960s.
