The Flash #297

Published in May 1981, The Flash #297 arrived during a transitional era for the DC Comics character Barry Allen. This issue was part of a long-running narrative arc that featured the creative contributions of writer Cary Bates and artist Carmine Infantino, the latter of whom was instrumental in establishing the visual identity of the Silver Age Flash. At this time, the series was navigating complex subplots involving the hero’s personal life and his ongoing struggle with recurring antagonists, reflecting the broader editorial shift within DC toward more intricate, serialized storytelling.

The cover and interior art by Infantino demonstrate the clean, kinetic aesthetic that defined his tenure on the series. His design approach prioritized clarity and movement, ensuring that the visual representation of super-speed remained readable and engaging for readers. While issue #297 serves as a specific chapter in the mid-run of the title, it is representative of the period's efforts to balance classic superhero tropes with the evolving dramatic standards of the early 1980s, eventually building toward the seismic changes that would redefine the mantle of the Flash later in the decade.
