Where it came from
The Flash Annual #3 was published in 1990 during a period where DC Comics utilized annuals to bridge narrative gaps and explore side characters within their primary superhero titles. This specific issue is notable for its connection to the Wally West era of the character, a time when writer William Messner-Loebs was defining the rogue's gallery and internal struggles of the new Flash following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
The interior art was provided by Mike Collins and Frank McLaughlin. The design and narrative tone were crafted to fit the established continuity of the monthly Flash series, focusing on a self-contained story that allowed for deeper character study than a standard monthly issue permitted. It was received as a standard installment of late-80s and early-90s DC lore, appealing primarily to long-term readers of the Wally West Flash run.
