The Force of Buddha's Palm #55

The Force of Buddha's Palm, or Ru Lai Shen Zhang, is a long-running Hong Kong manhua series that began in the early 1960s. Issue #55 belongs to the later iterations of the saga, which transitioned into the highly stylized, kinetic martial arts aesthetic that defined the Hong Kong comics industry in the 1980s and 1990s. This series is celebrated for its integration of wuxia storytelling with increasingly elaborate, high-fantasy illustrations that pushed the boundaries of traditional panel layout and character design.

The series was driven by the collaborative efforts of various artists and writers under the Jade Dynasty banner, most notably Tony Wong. The design aesthetic was intentionally maximalist, characterized by thick linework, vibrant coloring, and dramatic, exaggerated depictions of internal energy, known as qi. This visual language was designed to mirror the explosive action found in cinema of the era, and it received widespread critical acclaim within the Asian market for revitalizing the wuxia genre for a new generation of readers.
