The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #1

The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones #1 was published by Marvel Comics in January 1983 as the inaugural issue of an ongoing series. It was developed to capitalize on the massive success of the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, providing Lucasfilm with a vehicle to expand the franchise lore while bridging the gap between cinematic releases. The series was designed to explore untapped timeframes in the archaeologist's life, allowing writers to craft episodic narratives that captured the tone of pulp adventure serials.

The series was written by David Michelinie, who served as a primary architect for the title's early run, with interior art primarily provided by John Romita Jr. Their collaborative effort aimed to emulate the high-octane pacing and visual style of the films, utilizing Marvel's house style to appeal to younger readers and established fans alike. Upon its release, the comic was received as a solid extension of the franchise, successfully maintaining the spirit of the character's cinematic roots through long-form serialized storytelling.
