The Joker #1 was published by DC Comics in 1975, arriving during a brief but notable period in the mid-1970s when the publisher experimented with giving their most iconic villains solo titles. The series was intended to explore the character's psyche outside of his usual role as a foil for Batman, placing him in a variety of criminal escapades.
