The Mutant Misadventures of Cloak and Dagger #12

The Mutant Misadventures of Cloak and Dagger #12 was published in 1990 by Marvel Comics as part of a series that sought to integrate the street-level vigilantes Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson more deeply into the broader X-Men mythos. During this period, the editorial direction shifted to capitalize on the popularity of mutant-themed storylines, rebranding the title to reflect their status as mutants who acquired their powers through experimental drug testing rather than inherent genetics.

The issue features cover art and narrative work consistent with the series' attempt to bridge the gap between gritty urban drama and the high-concept superheroics of the late 80s and early 90s. The creative direction aimed to maintain the dark, atmospheric tone established by Bill Mantlo in the characters' earlier appearances while adapting to the more kinetic, character-heavy aesthetic that defined Marvel’s mutant line at the turn of the decade.
