The New Wave Vs. the Volunteers #2

The New Wave Vs. the Volunteers was a comic book miniseries published by DC Comics in 1993, emerging during an era when the publisher was experimenting with the expansion of its Milestone Media imprint and the integration of diverse, contemporary superhero archetypes. The series was designed to pit the New Wave—a group of teenage heroes—against the Volunteers, a team rooted in a more traditionalist, perhaps slightly cynical, perspective on heroics, reflecting the internal editorial tensions and stylistic shifts prevalent in early 90s superhero fiction.

Written by Joseph Illidge and illustrated by various artists associated with the Milestone house style, the series aimed to comment on the generational and ideological divides within the medium. While the creative team sought to deliver a high-energy crossover that utilized the unique aesthetics of the Dakotaverse, the book was received as a niche entry in the broader Milestone expansion. It remains a point of interest primarily for collectors focusing on the specific experimental era of Milestone Comics rather than mainstream DC titles.
