The Question #10

The Question #10, published in 1987 by DC Comics, serves as a pivotal installment in the series written by Dennis O'Neil with art by Denys Cowan. The series emerged during a period of re-evaluation for DC's characters, aiming to ground the previously two-dimensional Vic Sage in a gritty, urban environment heavily influenced by Zen philosophy and the socioeconomic anxieties of the late 1980s. This issue specifically continues the exploration of Sage’s psychological transformation in Hub City.

Denys Cowan’s expressive, kinetic art style was instrumental in defining the book's stark aesthetic, often utilizing heavy shadows and unconventional framing to mirror the moral ambiguity of the setting. Upon its release, the series was praised by critics and long-term readers for its intellectual depth and departure from traditional superhero tropes. O’Neil’s writing was noted for its commitment to character development over action-heavy narratives, cementing this run as a definitive example of sophisticated mid-80s comic storytelling.
