The Rawhide Kid #45

Published by Marvel Comics in April 1965, The Rawhide Kid #45 arrived during a prolific period for the publisher's Western line. By the mid-1960s, Marvel was heavily focused on the burgeoning superhero boom, yet titles like this maintained a dedicated following by balancing traditional gunfighter tropes with the dynamic, high-energy storytelling characteristic of the era. The issue served as a standard entry in the adventures of Johnny Bart, a character established as a quick-drawing hero operating in the post-Civil War American frontier.

The creative direction for this period of the series was heavily influenced by the house style established by Marvel's editorial team, often featuring layouts and character designs that emphasized kinetic action. While the Western genre was beginning to lose its dominance in the comic market to more modern, costumed narratives, the work on this series remains a notable example of mid-century pulp storytelling. It is remembered primarily as a testament to the versatility of Marvel’s bullpen, which produced these grounded tales alongside the increasingly complex mythologies of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers.
