The Spectacular Spider-Man #25

Published in December 1978, The Spectacular Spider-Man #25 was produced during a period when Marvel Comics was expanding the Spider-Man franchise beyond his primary titles to capitalize on the character's immense popularity. This specific issue served as a pivotal narrative installment, continuing the series' focus on Peter Parker’s internal struggles and his life in academia, following the creative direction established by editors and writers who sought to differentiate this series from the main Amazing Spider-Man title by emphasizing character-driven melodrama.

The issue features artwork by Jim Mooney, a veteran comic book illustrator whose clean, classic style was a staple of the industry throughout the 1970s. His work on this series was noted for its consistent draftsmanship and adherence to the house style of the era, which favored clear storytelling and emotive character expressions. The story was penned by Bill Mantlo, a prolific writer known for his deep investment in the supporting cast of the Spider-Man mythos, and it was received by readers as a reliable entry that maintained the ongoing tension of Peter Parker's dual life.
