Where it came from
Published by Marvel Comics in 1991, The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual #11 serves as a notable entry in the 'The Vibranium Vendetta' crossover event, which spanned across the three primary Spider-Man titles of that year. The issue was crafted to provide a high-stakes narrative involving the Black Panther and the international pursuit of vibranium, reflecting the 1990s trend of interconnected multi-part annual storylines that aimed to incentivize readers to collect the entire arc.
The interior art was provided by Guang Yap, with a script by Terry Kavanagh that leaned into the geopolitical intrigue of the Marvel Universe. The design and narrative focus reflected a concerted effort by Marvel editorial to elevate Spider-Man's interactions with established power players like T'Challa, emphasizing a more global scope for the character that stood in contrast to his usual street-level concerns in New York City.
