The Superman Family #188

The Superman Family issue number 188 was published by DC Comics in March 1978. This title was a long-running anthology series that consolidated several ongoing stories featuring characters from the Superman mythos, including Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen, and Lois Lane. It emerged during a transitional period for the publisher, as DC sought to streamline its diverse catalog of Superman-related titles under a single, high-page-count banner that offered readers a variety of serialized adventures in one volume.

The interior art and storytelling were driven by an ensemble of DC’s veteran creators of the era, including writers like Cary Bates and artists such as Kurt Schaffenberger. The design philosophy behind this era of the series emphasized a balance between silver-age charm and the slightly more grounded, character-driven narratives that were beginning to take hold in the late 1970s. While not a monumental shift in the industry, the issue is remembered by collectors for its consistent representation of the core DC editorial style during the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths era.
