The Trapped Former Villainess Wants to Escape from the Sadistic Prince #1

The Trapped Former Villainess Wants to Escape from the Sadistic Prince began as a light novel series written by Mitsuki Amagami, later adapted into a manga serialization illustrated by Hiyo. The narrative fits into the popular Japanese isekai subgenre of 'villainess' stories, which emerged in the mid-2010s. These works typically feature a protagonist reincarnated into a game or novel setting, tasked with navigating complex social hierarchies and avoiding the tragic outcomes previously scripted for their character.

The series centers on themes of survival and subversion, contrasting the expected tropes of the sadistic royalty archetype with the protagonist's pragmatic attempts to secure her own safety. Hiyo's character design emphasizes expressive, emotive portrayals that highlight the tension between the characters' public facades and their underlying motivations. The work has been received as a standard contribution to the ongoing trend of romantic-fantasy narratives within the shojo and josei manga markets, where it is appreciated for its blend of dramatic irony and character-driven stakes.
