The Uncanny X-Men #208

The Uncanny X-Men #208, released in August 1986, arrived during a transformative period for the X-Men franchise. Written by Chris Claremont with art by John Romita Jr., the issue serves as a key chapter in the aftermath of the Mutant Massacre storyline, a crossover event that fundamentally altered the tone of the series by introducing a grittier, higher-stakes narrative approach to mutant relations. This issue focuses on the aftermath of the Marauders' assault on the Morlocks, shifting the spotlight to the emotional toll taken on the core team members.

John Romita Jr.'s illustrative style during this era is noted for its architectural clarity and strong sense of character weight, which grounded Claremont’s increasingly complex soap-opera-style plotting. The issue was received as a solid entry in one of the most commercially successful runs in comic book history, contributing to the X-Men's status as the cornerstone of the Marvel Universe throughout the late 1980s. Its design and execution reflect a transition toward the darker, more introspective storytelling that defined the modern era of the X-Men titles.
