Where it came from
Published in 2003, The Uncanny X-Men #424 serves as a mid-run installment during the 'Holy War' arc, written by Chuck Austen with interior art by Sean Phillips. This period of the series followed the departure of Grant Morrison, navigating a transitional phase for the X-Men that focused heavily on interpersonal drama, theological themes, and the evolving relationships between characters like Nightcrawler and Wolverine.
The cover art, provided by Salvador Larroca, reflects the aesthetic shift occurring within Marvel Comics in the early 2000s, moving toward more realistic, cinematic detailing. As part of a long-running legacy title, this issue maintains the series' commitment to exploring the sociopolitical anxieties of mutants, though it remains a niche entry often noted by collectors for its specific place in the post-Morrison creative trajectory.
