Where it came from
The Uncanny X-Men #450, released in late 2004, arrived during the 'Reload' era of Marvel Comics, a period defined by a soft relaunch of the X-Men line following Grant Morrison’s transformative run on the title. This specific issue is part of the 'Heroes and Villains' story arc written by Chris Claremont, who had returned to the series to guide the team through a more traditional superhero narrative after the psychological and stylistic shifts of the early 2000s.
The interior art for this issue was provided by Alan Davis, a celebrated illustrator known for his clean, classic aesthetic and dynamic character work. Davis, a frequent collaborator with Claremont, sought to bridge the gap between the modern, cinematic tone of the era and the iconic visual language established during their past work together. The issue is widely regarded by collectors as a transitional piece that emphasizes character development and tactical team dynamics amidst a period of organizational restructuring for the X-Men.
