Where it came from
The Zeros #1 was released in 2011 as the debut issue of a superhero series published by Gauntlet Comics. Created by industry veterans Christopher J. Priest and Gail Simone, the title was designed to explore the psychological complexities of a group of teenagers recruited into a clandestine government experiment, emphasizing grounded, character-driven storytelling over traditional genre tropes.
The series stands out for its collaboration between writers known for their deconstruction of superhero archetypes. The aesthetic aimed for a modern, edgy sensibility that reflected the shifting landscape of independent comics during the early 2010s, though the series ultimately remained a niche title that garnered a dedicated following among fans of the creators' darker narrative styles.
