Where it came from
Thor issue 197 was published by Marvel Comics in March 1972, serving as a significant chapter during the lengthy and highly regarded run written by Gerry Conway. This era of the series was characterized by an attempt to balance the mythological grandeur of the Asgardian setting with the evolving, more personal narrative styles prevalent in 1970s superhero comics.
The interior artwork was provided by John Buscema, a legendary illustrator known for his dynamic mastery of the human figure and his ability to render cosmic scale. Buscema's work on this issue contributed to the defined visual language of the Marvel Universe, emphasizing strong anatomical poses and intricate panel layouts that helped solidify Thor as a central pillar of Marvel's storytelling during that decade.
