Where it came from
Thor #247 was published by Marvel Comics in May 1976 as part of the long-running Thor series. This issue is notable for being written by Len Wein and illustrated by John Buscema, a legendary creative team of the Bronze Age who helped solidify the cosmic scope of Asgardian mythology within the Marvel Universe. The story continues the character's adventures during a period where Marvel was balancing grounded human drama with high-fantasy cosmic stakes.
The design and artistic direction were heavily influenced by John Buscema’s dynamic, classical approach to superhero anatomy and composition. Buscema was renowned for his ability to translate Kirby-esque concepts into a more grounded, painterly style that became the visual standard for Thor throughout the 1970s. The issue was received as a standard installment in a prolific era for the character, reflecting the creative consistency that defined the Marvel Bullpen during that decade.
