Ultimate Fantastic Four #48

Ultimate Fantastic Four #48, published by Marvel Comics in 2007, represents the conclusion of the 'Death of the Invisible Woman' story arc within the Ultimate Marvel imprint. This line was conceived in the early 2000s to modernize classic characters for a new generation of readers, stripping away decades of continuity to tell fresh, self-contained narratives. The issue was written by Mike Carey and illustrated by Tyler Kirkham, serving as a pivotal moment in the development of the Ultimate Fantastic Four's internal dynamics as they faced the consequences of the team's ongoing existential crises.

The creative direction for this series focused on a grittier, more grounded aesthetic compared to the original 1961 Fantastic Four, aiming to explore how real-world science and celebrity status would impact such individuals. While the Ultimate line initially received significant critical acclaim for its ambitious reinterpretations, by the time of issue #48, the title was contending with the shifting editorial landscape of the Marvel Universe and the eventual transition toward the broader events that would reshape the imprint. Readers and critics noted the issue for its attempt to maintain the high stakes of the series while navigating the complex character relationships established in earlier volumes.
