Ultimate Spider-Man #46

Ultimate Spider-Man #46 was published in 2003 as part of the Marvel Comics Ultimate Universe imprint, a line designed to modernize and reintroduce foundational characters for a contemporary audience without the baggage of decades of previous continuity. This specific issue is a highlight of the 'Venom' story arc, which reimagined the symbiotic suit as a biological experiment gone wrong rather than an alien entity, grounding the horror in a scientific mishap involving Peter Parker and Eddie Brock's fathers.

The issue features the signature work of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mark Bagley, whose collaboration defined the Ultimate Spider-Man aesthetic for over a hundred issues. Bagley's clean, kinetic linework captured the tension of Peter Parker's struggle to contain the symbiote, and the creative team's decision to lean into the psychological stakes of the suit's corruption was met with widespread critical approval, helping to secure the series as the flagship title of the Ultimate line.
