Ultimate Spider-Man #66

Ultimate Spider-Man #66 was published by Marvel Comics in 2004 as part of the Ultimate Marvel imprint, an initiative designed to modernize long-standing characters for a new generation of readers. Written by Brian Michael Bendis with artwork by Mark Bagley, this issue falls within the 'Hobgoblin' story arc, a reimagining of the classic antagonist that contrasts significantly with the character's mainstream continuity origins. The creative team focused on grounding the fantasy elements in a realistic, character-driven environment that emphasized Peter Parker's teenage anxieties.

The design and tone of the issue reflect the aesthetic established by the creative partnership of Bendis and Bagley, who helmed the title for an unprecedented run. By stripping away decades of complex continuity, they aimed to create a clean entry point for younger readers while maintaining a gritty, cinematic feel. Upon release, the issue was well-received by critics and readers alike, largely due to its commitment to character development and its ability to reinvent iconic villains within the constraints of the Ultimate universe's more grounded storytelling style.
