Ultimate Spider-Man #87

Ultimate Spider-Man #87 was published in 2006 as part of the long-running Ultimate Marvel imprint, an initiative designed to modernize classic characters for a new generation by stripping away decades of complex continuity. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Mark Bagley, this issue serves as a chapter in the 'Deadpool' story arc, which introduced a reimagined, more mercenary version of the character into the Ultimate universe.

The creative direction by Bendis and Bagley focused on establishing a stark contrast between Peter Parker's grounded teenage struggles and the increasingly dangerous geopolitical threats of the Ultimate landscape. Mark Bagley’s signature clean, dynamic linework was instrumental in defining the visual aesthetic of this line, and this specific issue was well-regarded for its role in testing Spider-Man's moral resolve against a notably darker and more cynical depiction of the popular mercenary.
